A green tide opens a new edition, ten thousand golden warriors get their heavy support in plastic, and five army boxes march into the Old World. On the board game side, Feuerland opened its Essen books — and a Kickstarter came back from the dead.
A New Waaagh! Starts Now
The first codex of 11th Edition is an Ork codex — and it did not arrive alone.
Pre-orders opened on Saturday for Codex: Orks and a model wave big enough to field an army straight out of the box. Nazdreg leads the character line-up alongside a Warboss and a Mek, backed by Boyz, Warbikers and a Trukk. Several units that were previously locked inside the Armageddon box are now available separately — the Weirdboy, Big Mek Dakkarig, the Kommand Krew and the Wartrakk. Everything hits shelves on 5 September.
Opening an edition with Orks rather than Space Marines is a genuine break with tradition, and the book itself has changed shape too: the codex moves from hardback to a softcover in a slipcase, and comes in noticeably cheaper than the 10th Edition equivalents. Whether that format sticks for the rest of the edition is the question everyone is quietly watching.

Wrath of the Ten Thousand
The Custodes Support Battle Group brings three long-awaited kits into plastic at once.
Announced on Sunday and going up for pre-order on 29 August, the box contains four Gyrfalcon jetbikes, a Pallas Grav-attack and a Telemon Dreadnought. All three are new in plastic, and — this is the part that matters — all three are legal in both Warhammer 40,000 and the Horus Heresy. The box is a while-stocks-last release, with a delay noted for Australia, New Zealand and Japan.
Alongside it comes Journal Tactica: Prospero Burns – Judgement of Valdor, a softback that adds a Daemons of Tzeentch army list, and a Legio Custodes dice set in pearlised red and gold with 19 D6 and a scatter die. For anyone who has been running resin Telemons through two systems for years, this is a quiet but significant upgrade.

A Telemon is tall, a jetbike has fragile edges, and neither enjoys a car journey loose in a box. Whichever system you field them in, we have the foam for it.

Five Armies March into the Old World
Battle March gets five faction boxes at once — and they are gloriously rank-and-file.
Empire of Man, Beastmen Brayherds, Wood Elf Realms, High Elf Realms and Orc & Goblin Tribes each get a box built for games of 400 to 750 points. The Empire set is a good illustration of the format: a Commander leading 20 State Troops, 10 State Missile Troops, 10 Archers, 10 Flagellants and 5 Pistoliers. Beastmen field a Chieftain and a Shaman with 20 Gor, 10 Bestigor, 10 Ungor and 10 Chaos Warhounds behind them.
The High Elf box brings a Lothern Skycutter and a Tiranoc Chariot, and the Orcs get a Boar Chariot — so these are not purely infantry blocks. Japan sees a delay on the Empire and Beastmen boxes.

Feuerland Opens Its SPIEL 2026 Books
Nine titles for Essen — and most of them are expansions to games that are already bursting out of their boxes.
Feuerland published its full autumn line-up this week: Age of Innovation – Zukunft und Vergangenheit, Flossenschlag – Haie und Riffe, Flügelschlag – Mittel- und Südamerika, Flügelschlag – Regionen Fan-Set 1, Greenwood, Melochs Duell, Vantage, Viticulture – Bordeaux and Wasserkraft – Sammelbecken.
HeidelBär followed a few days earlier with its own autumn slate, including a new Lost Ruins of Arnak expansion, Codenames: Critical Role Adventures, Alebrijes and Drillers. Between the two publishers, that is a lot of new cardboard heading for shelves that were already full — and Essen is still weeks away.

On Our Radar: The Monolith Gets a Second Life
Plaid Hat Games pulled the plug on its first Monolith campaign three days after launching it in June, with $27,400 from 290 backers on the board. That is an unusually public way to fail, and rarer still, the studio talked about it openly afterwards.
The relaunch went live on 18 August and passed twice its funding goal within days, with the campaign running until 17 September. The revised version adds a sixth shaman, a bot pack that opens the game up to one and two players, and glass and metal component upgrades. Moulds and a 10,000-copy print run were already in production before the first attempt, and delivery is still targeted for the end of this year.
No organizer from us yet — the boxes have not shipped. But a miniature-and-token-heavy game with expansions designed in from the start tends to end up on our workbench sooner or later.
