BattleTech: A Whole Force on Steel
Oct 28, 2026
A BattleTech force is rarely just 'Mechs. Infantry, battle armor, tanks, and the odd VTOL join the fight – and every one of them has a different height. Here's how a mixed force travels in our magnetic case: sorted by size, not by box.

Why BattleTech Works So Well on Steel
Hex bases, top-heavy models, and plenty of thin parts.
'Mechs carry their weight up high: wide shoulders, arm-mounted guns, missile racks. On slim legs they tip easily, and in a loose box they rattle against each other. On a magnetized hex base they stay exactly where you put them.
The same goes for everything else in your force. Battle armor squads, tanks, and a VTOL on its flight stand all stand on the same steel – and only the base touches anything. Antennas, gun barrels, and rotor blades stay free.

Sorted by Height, Not by Lance
Each tray gets the models that share its height. That's how a whole force fits in one Half-Size case.
The case has 7 slots, and you decide where each tray goes. Short models need little headroom, tall ones need more. So instead of sorting by unit, sort by size:
- Top tray: infantry, battle armor, and light 'Mechs
- Middle tray: heavy and assault 'Mechs, plus your VTOL on its flight stand
- Bottom tray: combat vehicles – low enough that the tray above can sit close
In our photos, that's 3 trays: the 2 that come with the case plus 1 extra. Each steel tray measures 266 x 145.5 mm, and the force on it stands in rows, ready to go.

Room for the Big Ones
Fewer trays, more headroom.
Bring just 2 trays and the space between them grows – plenty for assault 'Mechs with raised arms and tall missile racks. The trays can also sit at different slot heights on the left and right, giving one side extra clearance while the rest of the case stays compact.

At the Table
Classic BattleTech or Alpha Strike – the same minis, the same case.
Pull the tray out, set it next to the map, and use it as your staging area. Destroyed units go back on the steel instead of rolling across the table. Non-slip pads keep the case in place while you pull a tray, and the lock switch with color indicator shows at a glance whether everything is secured before you pack up.
With the MINI PLUS set, the inner zip pocket holds record sheets, pilot cards, and Alpha Strike cards.
